Badlands Sunset and the Wonders of the Night Sky Tour
Relax and enjoy a spectacular evening in the Badlands atop the Pinnacle Overlook, as you witness the gorgeous Western South Dakota sunset over the peaks, valleys, and multicolored spires which make up the labyrinth of wonderful landscape we call the Badlands. (Named Mako Sica by the Native Americans). Formed over a period of over 75 million years, the Badlands are home to over 50 species of native grasses, Bison, Big Horned Sheep, Prairie Dogs and other wildlife.
From there, we will take a short 30-minute drive to the small western town of Quinn, home of The Badlands Observatory. This astronomical observatory, founded in 2000 by Ron Dyvig and Teresa Hofer, is used to track asteroids and works with NASA and other international agencies to catalog near earth objects with the potential for impacting Earth. Ron has had a lifelong passion for astrology, and designed and built many of the telescopes in the observatory. He has identified more than 25 asteroids and helped design and test image intensifier camera systems. Teresa is a photographer and in collaboration, she and Ron have a collection of the most amazing and striking astronomical photographs imaginable.
Join us as we explore the night sky above the Badlands of South Dakota for one of the most memorable and enjoyable nights of your life.
